Rio de Janeiro - Metro

The metro is the easiest and vast way to travel around Rio. It spreads from the north to the central areas to the beach areas in the south of Copacabana & Ipanema areas. The metro consists of 3 lines named L1, L2 & L4. Public transport passes must be purchased to utilise the metro and other public transport options

Trams

The VLT system is a more straight forward which navigates the more central area rather than the beaches in the south. This is made up of 3 lines around central station.

City Buses

There's a huge choice of city buses which may be confusing for tourists to navigate. There is also the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) which has 3 designated routes named Trans Oeste, Trans Olimpico and Trans Carioca which you may use to get to Geleao airport

Taxis

Taxis are all over Rio De Janeiro characterised by being bright yellow with dark blue strips down the side. This must always be metered as its not permitted to settle on a set fee.

Not only natural wonders are on show but the famous favelas, the bohemian area of Santa Teresa and Lapa and its samba clubs. Below is a selection of sights to take in during your stay.

Where To Stay

Where To Stay

Best Connected: Centro

Centro is Rio’s bustling and most connected area. As the name suggests, it sits in the centre of Rio De Janeiro with most of the public transport systems situating or passing through. Its traditionally, the business and governmental district but also home to its port and the futuristic Museum of Tomorrow. More historical landmarks include Paço Imperial, a former royal palace, and São Bento Monastery.

Upmarket Choice: Ipanema

You cannot think of Ipanema without thinking of its golden sands and blue waters. The district itself however is home to upmarket hotels, fine-dining restaurants and bars and high-end fashion boutiques with the top names in fashion. It also boasts an incredible promenade and dramatic mountainous backdrop that feels like it stretches for miles.

Up & Coming: Saint Teresa

One word that desribes Saint Teresa is bohemian and it's easy to see why with its ample local artists' studios. The renovated area is growing in popularity drawing visitors to the Parque das Ruinas and numerous historical villas which reside on the hill top looking over the rest of the city.
