Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, is without a doubt one of Europe’s most appealing capitals but unique as it doesn’t house the national government, parliament, royal family or embassies. World renowned for its historic canals and world-class art at the Museumplein, home to the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum. In close proximity, are traditional windmills and pure tulip fields which stretch for miles. Amsterdam is home to one of the most famous clubs in the world in Ajax now but used to have 4 professional sides in Blauw-Wit Amsterdam, AFC DWS, AVV De Volewijckers but some of these clubs have folded. Amsterdamsche play in the lower divisions

How: Tickets can be purchased directly with Ajax online. Priority goes to season tickets holders and members. In the Netherlands, alot of clubs require a fan card but will offer special packages for visitors from abroad.

Stadium tour includes a number of tiers: Off season tour, Classic tour & Guided tour. The classic tour is not guided but includes sights such as Ajax Dressing Room, Mixed Zone, Players Tunnel, Pitch & Manager's Dug-out. Guided tours are an extra €10.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to City Centre

Train: A direct railway line connects Schiphol International Airport with Amsterdam Central Station, and is the fastest and most convenient form of transport to the city centre. The ride takes 15 minutes.

Bus: Amsterdam Airport Express (bus 397) has a fast and direct connection to Amsterdam and has many stops in the city centre with the main stops being Museumplein, Rijksmuseum and Leidseplein. The journey takes around 30 mins.

Metro

The metro in Amsterdam has 5 lines covering all areas of the city. The lines are named 50 (Green), 51 (Orange), 52 (Blue), 53 (Red) & 54 (Yellow). The Metro operates 06:00-00:30. Public transport in Amsterdam is cashless and heavily utilise the OV-Chipkaart (Public Chip Card for travel).

Trams

The Amsterdam tram connects the city center with 15 main routes mostly in the centre, south, east and west areas. It doesnt operate to the north. Key routes are as follows:

-Tram 2: Oudenaardeplantsoen - Museumplein - Centraal Station
-Trams 14: Flevopark - Rembrandtplein - Centraal Station

City Buses

Amsterdam’s bus network is extensive, connecting all neighbourhoods with other city areas and extending outwards into the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. For example, visitors heading to the flower strip in spring, towards the beaches of Zandvoort and Bloemendaal and to the main historic towns and villages north of Amsterdam can often get around easiest by bus. it is no longer possible to pay by cash on any GVB buses 

 

Ferries

The north of the city isnt as covered by the public transport network and of the best ways to connect is the ferry network and its 7 routes across the water. Key routes are as follows:

-F2: Centraal Station - IJplein
-F3: Centraal Station - Buiksloterweg

Things To See In Amsterdam

Amsterdam has a distinctive and clear image with its picturesque canals lined with quaint old houses, luscious green parks in every neighbourhood, colourful flower gardens and grand Dam Square with its jaw-dropping Royal Palace. Art, history and more are also in the mix – see Rembrandts at the Rijksmuseum, discover the harrowing experiences of Anne Frank House. Venturing around the city by bike is also a very common way to see all the Dutch capital has to offer.

The Museum Quarter as the name suggests is a concentrated area of the city of some of the most famous museums in Europe. Anyone looking for culture will be in their element in this recently renovated quarter. If Museums are not your forte then go shopping at the Pieter Corneliszoon Hooftstraat where luxury stores such as Gucci, Michael Kors & Prada reside or visit Vondelpark, Amsterdam's most famous park.


Up & Coming: Amsterdam-Noord

 

Across the IJmeer, the area has increased in popularity being know for its lively redeveloped wharf area with trendy restaurants, art galleries, and DJ events around the NDSM cultural centre. Not to be outdone by the areas in the south of the city, it has Noorderpark is a vibrant green oasis with a swimming pool, playgrounds & four unique pavilions. Also home to the iconic Eye Film Museum offering screenings, a poster gallery, and movie-related exhibitions. A unique exprience on the over-the-edge swing at the A’DAM Lookout building.
