Milan whilst not the capital of the country certainly is the capital of fashion and design. A real powerhouse of Italys overall economy and industry with it housing the national stock exchange. Milan situated in the Lombardy region is also Italy's most populated metropolis. Football also plays a huge role in Milanese culture with european giants of AC Milan and Internazionale both playing at the iconic San Siro. Three main clubs are within Milan with A.C.Monza on the outskirts of the city. In close proximity are the clubs of Pro Patria, Como, Atalanta, Albinoleffe and Varese.

The current San Siro is currently due to be demolished in 2026 where a new stadium on the same site is proposed to be ready by the start of the 2027/28 season.

Similar to many Italian cities particularly the ones residing in Northern Italy, many major cities can be accessed via fast train routes from Milan. Juventus and Torino from Turin is an hour train, Chievo and Hellas Verona is 80 minutes and Bologna is also an 80 minutes train journey.

Travel around Milan
Milan Metro
Milan has longest metro line in Italy despite only having 4 metro lines but cover the majority of the Milan metropolitan area. The list consists of Line M1 (red) main stops Fiera Milano & Duomo, Line M2 (green) main stops Milano Centrale, Line M3 (yellow) Duomo and Milan Centrale & Line M5 (purple) main stops Garibaldi station and Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and is soon working on a fifth.

Taxis
Taxis in Milan are white and unlike traditional ways to flag down a taxi where you hail them in the street. To catch a cab, you will need to walk to the nearest taxi stop which are located at various areas of the city.

City Buses
Milan has over 80 local bus lines and a few trolleybus lines. the bus lines serve the purpose of complementing the metro lines and will routinely advise if stops or routes are travelling to a stop where one of the metro lines reside.

Trams
The tram network consists of 18 lines that run until past midnight. The trams in Milan have longer schedules compared to the Milan Metro and the city’s local buses. The trams are numbered from 1 to 33. Due to it being one of the first public transport systems in Milan, it has many centrally focused routes mostly feeding into the Duomo area.

Things To See In Milan
Italy’s capital of contemporary fashion and design has much more to offer than just the biggest fashion brands on the planet. Milan’s Convent of Santa Maria delle Graziei is home to one of the most famous paintings in the world, Leonardo da Vinci’s. Iconic architecture such as the Duomo and La Scala opera house, separated by the ornate Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II sit in the heart of this vibrant city.

Best Connected: Duomo
Duomo is a fantastic choice when staying in Milan as you not only get to enjoy the incredible gothic Cathedral and Teatro alla Scala nearby but also its the most central and well connected areas of the city. Two of the main metro lines run through the Duomo but also the extensive and famous tram network also. Of course, you get an incredible selection of restaurants, bars, fantastic food but it will be busy due to the concentration of attractions on your doorstep.
Upmarket Choice: Brera
The elegant Brera is home and renowned for its small boutiques of emerging designers and the heart of the neighbourhood is the Pinacoteca di Brer with its gallery full of Italian art spanning centuries, and the fresco-filled, 15th-century Santa Maria del Carmine church. Upscale food shops on cobbled alleys come alive with glamorous Milanese dining at sleek sidewalk cafes and stylish restaurants and you are only a stones throw away from Sforzesco Castle.
Up & Coming: Isola
Isola is one of the most up & coming areas neighbourhood in the city, with vibrant nightlife and top of the line dining areas. In very close proximity to Porta Nuova which changed the skyline and the city for good with avant-garde skyscrapers, such as Stefano Boeri’s Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest). Isola also sits very close to the main train stations in Milan which makes exploring the city and beyond easy.
